Florida

If there's one thing that I can name that has really fallen off since I started teaching full time, I would say that it is blogging and really reflecting on what is going on in our lives presently. It's a bit of a bummer that I don't feel like I'm capturing these moments as much, but I also know that at the end of a long day my priority is relaxing on the couch and spending time with Keith rather than sitting at my computer all night long.

Regardless, let's talk about Florida. Obviously that's where I grew up and it's a place that's very special to me. It's also a place that is not very close to Tennessee, and in general, Tennessee lacks something very specific that Florida has in abundance... which is beaches. After what has felt like a lifetime of not seeing any oceans or sand, Keith and I took a long weekend vacation down to Destin, Florida for Labor Day! This trip came about pretty randomly, and last minute as we were scrambling to figure out how we would take a trip for our anniversary. Keith had a few surprises in mind, but when we talked more our real desire was to find the closest beach, and to park ourselves in the sand for a few days without any other plans. Thankfully my parents helped us to make that a reality and last Friday afterwork we drove 8 hours through the night and landed next to the ocean in Florida. In my mind, the greatest thing about it was that we haven't taken a trip like this since our honeymoon two years ago. Yes, we take lots of trips and go out of town quite often, but it usually revolves around visiting family or friends. As great as that is, we have figured out by now that it's equally important to take trips just for US. What a refreshing weekend! No plans except to spend as much time in the ocean as possible and to eat the best food we could find. I would go back in a heartbeat! Keith seriously had to drag me away on Monday, and then I spent the rest of the day in a funk that we had to go home. Still though, I'm so glad that we got to get away for a bit, relax, and recharge. I hope that we can make time to do more things like this every year!

Here are some photos from our trip:
