A Nashville Gem

Last night we went to Mas Tacos, Por Favor for the first time, and I was so blown away that I woke up this morning craving more. It was one of the best dinners I've ever had in this city, and that is saying a lot because there are some amazing eats here. If you live in the Nashville area and have not had their elote or chicken tortilla soup... you are missing out on some of the greatest flavor explosions your mouth will ever experience. This has definitely been added to the list of places that we MUST bring people when they visit, along with Burger Up and Mitchell Delicatessen. I'll stop raving now...

Recycled Art

This past week at work my great friend Sarah found an awesome art project for us to do with our respective groups of children. It kind of started out as a project for us to do on our own to kill time, but when our supervisors saw it and loved it we decided to do with the kids. This summer someone donated a ton of old magazines, so Sarah took it upon herself to find a way to get rid of them in a creative way.... and alas I bring you... magazine bowls! All we did was fold up strips of magazine pages, rolled them up, applied lots of tape and pressed them into a bowl shape. The finished one that your see there is mine, and all the smaller ones the kids made. I spent the day folding strips for them but was pleasantly surprised at how well they did at folding their own when we ran out. The kids LOVED this project and are so excited to add to them and make the bowls bigger on Monday. The best part? All of the students in these photos forfeited their gym time to sit with me and make these... it made my heart happy :) they also decided that they made pretty great hats also haha.

So if you have a bunch of magazines laying around I would highly recommend doing this... it was pretty calming to just sit and fold paper. Can't wait to shellac these and use them for something!

Nashville Traditions

I promise that this will be my last day of posting Labor Day weekend photos, I just can't stop looking at them and remembering what a good time we had! As I mentioned, my great friends Katelyn and Anna made the trek to Nashville from Washington DC to spend the long weekend with us and we definitely made the most of their time in town. Kate had never visited before so we took her as many places as we could, and one thing that is a Nashville essential (in my book) is seeing the Parthenon in Centennial Park. Keith went to band practice on Sunday afternoon, so the girls and I went on a little adventure, and definitely didn't let the rain get us down. Here are some of the many photos we took that afternoon:

Cliff

This past Saturday while Anna and Katelyn were in town we spent the afternoon swimming at Percy Priest Lake, which was a GREAT way to beat the crazy heat. We met up with a few of Anna's friends, and they showed us a neat little spot that included a short hike, and some great cliffs to jump off of. Anna and I were only brave enough to jump once or twice, but Kate was a definite champion, and the boys were just daredevils haha. Here are some pictures from our day:

It was SUCH a great time, and some surprisingly great exercise haha I can imagine my little cousins really enjoying this and look forward to getting back there sometime soon! I think for now though I'm going to pack up my bathing suit and get ready for fall :)
